Pat Valdata is a pilot, poet, and novelist. Her new book of poetry is a revised edition of her prizewinning book, Where No Man Can Touch. This book celebrates the many firsts achieved by women aviation pioneers. It received the Donald Justice Poetry Prize when it was first issued. The revised edition includes three new poems about women pilots you’ve probably never heard of: the first to solo a glider, the first to solo a powered aircraft, and the first to build and then fly her own airplane.
Pat also has three published novels, including her first book, Crosswind, about a young flying student and her mentor, a woman soaring instructor. Her second novel, The Other Sister, is a family saga about Hungarian immigrants in the 20th century. Her most recent novel, Eve's Daughters, is a feminist retelling of the Adam and Eve story in the form of paired novellas.
Pat is a native of New Jersey but has lived in Maryland since 1990. She and her husband, Bob Schreiber—who is not a pilot—now live in Crisfield.
